Makita LCT200W 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 2-Piece Combo Kit
These tools are great. I used them for all of my weekend warrior projects. You must convince your wife that YES, you do need to "drills". One for drilling, and one for driving...it is amazing how easy it is to grab the case and get things done. I have a nice corded drill as well...but I found that I didn't like the hassle of dragging it out with an extension core except for big projects or where I REALLY needed some power.
Even though they are battery powered (something I've been skeptical of for a long time), they have had all the power that I have needed, unless the battery is running low...in which case I have generally just swapped out the battery between the two (I haven't yet needed "full" power for both at the same time). Then when I take a break I just charge them up...which is pretty quick. These also take the 3.0 amp batteries, but they are pretty pricey...I may spring for one if I have a big project that I'd like to tackle, but the default batteries are great so far. I was wondering why the battery charger was SO big for the tiny batteries...the reason why is that it is a smart battery charger and will use simple lights to tell you what it is doing including some battery maintenance to try to prolong the life of the battery--time will tell if it works or not.
I was helping my neighbor put together a large backyard wooden swing set, these did a great job. The impact driver hooked up to a socket bit was so powerful that it would start to pull the nut THROUGH the board...granted it was really soft wood.
I also go these for a great price on a lightning deal around Christmas time...thank you Amazon.com!

I purchased this drill from HD for their online price of $196 shortly after Christmas. I was fortunate to have a Christmas sponsored by Dewalt by adding this tool, a 3-in-1 router kit, circular saw, and 100 piece bit set for the new drill.
I was previously using Ryobi NiCad 18v drill and circular saw and the moment I tore down my deck and began to rebuildI knew I needed something better. A friend with Dewalt tools came over and ran circles around me. With the NiCad I could handle 40-50 3" decking screws, my friends DeWalt could handle 200-300.
The clutch settings matter on a drill this precise. It didn't really seem to matter what setting I had on the Ryobi.
This drill feels great in your hand and it is nice to have confidence in your tools so you can focus on doing a great project.
I'll never switch from Dewalt based on the experience I've had with the tools I currently own. Next on the list is the 12" dual bevel compound miter, a Dewalt air compressor (thanks for crapping out porter cable), and the Dewalt scroll saw (I'm hoping to have a baby crib to make by the end of the year).
The Ryobis have made there way to my truck tool chest for use when I am out and about (powered by a 2500w inverter in the cab). MAN TOYS!
