Buttercup KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixers KSM150PSBF

My sister asked me to go halves with her to buy our mother this mixer. Mom makes lots of homemade candy as Christmas gifts and she has always used a Mixmaster. They are good mixers, but we decided to get a mixer with a more powerful motor as Mom eventually burns hers up, so we chose the KitchenAid. Keep checking Amazon.com for a sale price on the common colors. They were on sale on Sunday, then back up to the full price Mon. through Sat., then on sale again the next Sunday.

I waited for the sale when the price of the Artisan was marked down $52, it had a rebate, and a free 3-quart bowl offer, AND free shipping. The fact that it has a 325-watt motor was the real selling point. Now Mom is hard to please, and I was holding my breath until it arrived, thinking she would not like the fact it has a single beater. I thought she would reject it because she has always used two-beater mixers. Not so. She is thrilled with this mixer. The dual-action wide metal beater is 100% effective for mixing along the sides and the bottom of the bowl.

The whisk is just what she needs for beating egg whites for her candy. The motor is very powerful and I doubt she will ever use speeds 9 or 10. The bowls lock into place and she won't hesitate to leave the mixer running while doing other kitchen duties. It's so heavy it won't vibrate off the countertop. The reviewer from CT must have written his review on the wrong page. This Artisan mixer has the tilt-back head, another of Mom's must-haves. It is the KitchenAid Professional mixer which has the stationary head and the bowl that moves up and down.

I don't think we will hear a single complaint from my mother, my sister and I are thrilled with the sale price, rebate, free bowl, and free shipping, and I just can't wait until they go on sale again to order one for myself. I want a red one.

Blue Willow KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixers KSM150PSBW

I own a KA Artisan Series 5-Qt. Stand Mixer in "Blue Willow." I am a casual baker and am relatively new in the kitchen and prior to making this purchase, I did quite a bit of research on stand mixers. I found that the questions you have to ask yourself prior to making this purchase are:
(1) Do you really need one, and, if the answer is yes, then;
(2) Is this a one-time purchase, and;
(3) Which stand mixer actually *fits* your needs?
Though I was tempted to get a big 6-Qt professional, bowl-lifting, super cool mixer, I realized that I generally cook for two people and that I would not need to ever really mix 14-cups of flour or 8 pounds of potatoes. Even if I did, I'd be doing it in smaller batches anyway. So that brought me back to my senses and I considered the KA Artisan.

Comparatively:
Oddly, it only has 325 watts of power. Other stand mixers of this size offer up to 500 watts; the KA 6 Qt. Pro offers 525 watts and a bowl "lift" function. I don't know if this makes a huge difference, but my KA stands up to whatever I put in it. I use it to make mostly cookie and bread doughs. It comes with three accessories: flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip. The flat beater is very versatile and I have really appreciated not having to wrestle with my crappy hand-mixer when mixing things like softened cream cheese. I can throw it all into the bowl at once and walk away to start something else.

Cleanup:
It's a snap. While I tend to still get flour all over "The Fuselage," as I call my mixer, it wipes off in a jiffy because of the sleek exterior. I don't find the "chute" of the pouring shield especially "easy" to add ingredients, especially when it's flour from a big mixing bowl. The chute is not quite wide enough and flour tends to spill, so sometimes I don't use it, but this creates "splash-up" instead, so it's kind of a no-win situation. The steel bowl is absolutely smooth and so there are no real ridges inside the bowl for anything to stick to. The accessories twist off in a one-handed motion, are very secure and heavy, and are coated with a slick, non-stick, white finish - washing up is absolutely easy.

Counter Space:
You cannot put this away, or you will never get it out again. So for small apartment dwellers, you must think about your counterspace. I am a pretty small female, and to me, is HEAVY, HEAVY, HEAVY. While this is good because it doesn't wobble or "walk" across the countertop when it's mixing, this also makes it a gigantic pain to drag it out. So anticipate that it will take up about 1 cubic foot of your countertop forever and that you should have it somewhere where you don't have to move it.

Mixing:
It is very, very thorough. It has some weird "planetary mixing action," but whatever that means, it mixes mostly everything evenly. Turn it off before you stick your spatula in. It handles the stickiest focaccia dough to meringue perfectly, and the bowl "locks in" to the base, so you don't have to worry about it flying off.

Attachments:
These are super pricey in most cases, but the one that seems to draw the most raves is the pasta cutter (apprx. $100). KA constantly has deals and sometimes has nice packaged deals on their website, so check there as well. I have seen KA offer different accessories (including this one) for free on rebate, so watch for those. KA also is constantly flogging "The Mixer Bible" by Meredith Deeds and on their website, they sometimes have an ask-and-answer with the author. I do recommend getting a stand-mixer cover, or if you want to make one, there are several patterns available on the internet. I'm lazy and cheap, so I use a big dishrag and that has worked so far.

Overall, I'm glad I made the purchase. When I do use "the Fuselage" for baking jobs, it performs flawlessly and makes the baking much, much easier - you can get a good look at your dough consistency, etc. instead of worrying about if your frosting has unmixed chunks in it, or if your hand mixer is going to tip your entire bowl of pudding over while you run to get some missed ingredient. By proxy, its ease of use turns you into a better cook in the end. More relaxed, anyway, and if that's worth a couple hundred dollars to you, then by all means, buy it.

Gloss Cinnamon KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixer KSM150PSGC

I got this mixer about a month ago. I've wanted one for years, but always talked myself out of it (too expensive, too big, etc.) After finding a great deal here on Amazon, I finally caved in and let me say, I'm glad I did. I love this mixer! I was worried I wouldn't use it very much, since I already have a very nice bread machine (a "Zo"). I find that I'm using it all the time though. It really is like having an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. Cookie dough is so much easier.

I'm also making bread with it constantly. It's just so simple to throw the ingredients in the mixer and let it do all the kneading. I've been making fresh bread and bagels every week and it's been no hassle. It handles the dough very well and stays put. It's a big heavy machine. The only problem I was having with it was I was finding it very difficult to remove the bowl to clean it after I was done mixing something. My husband suggested rubbing some vaseline on the bottom edge and that has solved the problem completely.

Now I can pop the bowl off with one hand. Anyway, if you've been wanting one of these and if you like to bake at all, do youself a favor and get one. You will be amazed at how much easier it will make your life. I only wish I'd gotten one years ago!

Bayleaf KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixer KSM150PSBL

This mixer is one quality machine! Most people use the phrase "built like a tank" to describe it, and there's a lot of truth in that. It's the Volvo of stand mixers. It will probably outlast you! I love my mixer and have had no problems whatsoever with it. I'm so glad I bought it. It seemed frivolous at the time even though it was on sale, but it has served me well. This makes cooking so easy, you will throw out your hand mixer!

You have to be careful to wash and dry the metal attachments immediately, otherwise they discolor. While the stand mixer is pictured with a "pouring shield", there was no pouring shield in the box with my mixer. I'm sure I could have complained to Kitchen Aid and they would have sent one out immediately, but I really didn't buy the mixer for the pouring shield. I have been able to live quite happily without it.

Also, for the reviewer that was having problems getting the paddle to reach the ingredients at the bottom of the bowl: If you tilt the mixer head back, there is a screw at the crook there. If you tighten the screw the paddle moves up, loosen it and it will move down. This will allow you to adjust the paddle to reach the bottom of the work bowl. Good luck!

Almond Cream KitchenAid Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixer KSM150PSAC

This is a great machine for those who want a mixer that tilts up and may not have enough room in the kitchen to hold one of the larger "epicurian" models. Previously to this model all the big iron in the kitchen aid line was of the taller, fixed head design.

This mixer has substantial power (325 watts) to mix large recipies or run the more power hungry attachments and a large enough bowl to mix almost any recipe a home cook will make. The tilt head comes highly recomended (see the Cooks Illustrated article on mixers, available on this website), it keeps the controls lower and makes access to the bowl easier.

My wife and I have made several large batches of bread dough and this machine handles it with ease. It takes all the work out of it and just leaves the yummy home baked bread in its place.

Rachael Ray Hard Anodized Nonstick 14-Piece Cookware Set, Orange

Practical and comprehensive with a flash of color, this Rachael Ray hard-anodized 14-piece cookware set covers the basics for stovetop cooking, equipped for boiling, steaming, sauteing, simmering, and frying. The set includes a 1-1/2-quart covered sauce pan, a 2-quart covered sauce pan, a 3-quart covered sauce pan, a 4-1/2-quart covered sauce pot, a 4-1/2-quart covered saute pan, a 6-quart covered stockpot, an 8-inch open skillet, and a 10-inch open skillet. The sauce pans and pot come in handy for cooking breakfast oatmeal, heating up soup, making marinara sauce, or boiling pasta, and the deep saute pan works well for one-dish meals--start by browning meats or sauteing onions, then add liquid and other ingredients to finish on the stovetop or in the oven. Use the stockpot for large batches of chili, soup, or stew. Finally, the skillets offer gently curved sides for flipping food or sliding an omelet or grilled cheese sandwich easily from the pan to a plate.

Constructed in hard-anodized aluminum, the pots and pans resist dents and corrosion while distributing even heat. A nonstick treatment coats the interiors to ensure hassle-free cooking and cleaning. To transport the two saucepans, the saute pan, and the skillet to and from the stovetop, each benefits from a 7-inch long stainless-steel handle while the stockpot features two side loop handles. A loop handle tops each of the set's lids, too. For an ergonomically friendly and secure grip when handling every piece in the set, a silicone rubber sleeve covers each handle and a hanging hole perforates each long handle for storage options. The shatter-proof lids are manufactured in clear tempered glass, which allows the user to visually monitor cooking without releasing any heat or flavor. The cookware sustains oven temperatures up to 400 degrees F. For the best care, avoid the use of metal utensils while using the set. Likewise, the use of abrasive scrub pads and cleansers is discouraged. Wash the set by hand. Made in Thailand, Rachael Ray offers a limited lifetime warranty for the set. Upon shipping, the set measures 15-1/5 by 23-1/5 by 15-1/5 inches and weighs 26-1/3 pounds.
